Birnbaum in the Lesachtal Valley (947 m)
Situated half on a terrace and half on a slope, this scenic village offers a view to the villages of Nostra and Wodmaier, which are located opposite, as well as into the romantic Volaia Valley and to the Plenge. Birnbaum is the perfect starting point for many hiking tours.
A special honour for Birnbaum was the visit of the Austrian heir to the throne Archduke Franz Ferdinand in August 1908. The Archduke started his chamois hunt in the Volaia Valley here in this village. Lake Volaia with its serviced hut is a popular hiking destination and a must for every mountain enthusiast!
