Faith has deep roots in Lesachtal valley. There are churches and chapels in all villages. In Maria Luggau you’ll find Carinthia’s only basilica. Numerous pilgrims come to Maria Luggau every year. Cross-border pilgrimages from Sappada or Forni Avoltri are among the highlights of every year! The pilgrims have the possibility to spend the night in the monastery of the Servite Order.

Music is very important in Lesachtal valley. Each of the four main villages has a band and they all emphasise the development of young musicians. Every band counts about 40-60 members. But also small groups like the Lesachtaler Brass are part of the cultural offer.

We are not only home to instrumental music; also singing has a long tradition here. There are many choirs which grant a wide range of events. The Mixed Choir of Liesing organizes the singers’ hike which focuses on the beauty of nature.  

But also dramatics is popular in Lesachtal valley. Every year the amateur dramatic societies present plays, the Liesing group for example performs in the parish hall.
