Scenic ski tour across free, not too steep area with view to the highest summits of the Carnic ridge. Ascent time 4 hours, altitude difference 1360 m. Ascend to 1100 m above sea level in a westward direction to Valentintal valley starting from the big hairpin bend of Plöckenpass road 200 m after the military cemetery. Slight ascent to Valentintörl (2138 m). Continue to the right across a short and steep gorge to the wide southern face of the mountain that goes up to the western summit (2436 m) showing an ideal angle of inclination. Go on along the ridge (pay attention to snow cornices!!) and reach the main summit (better without skis). Descent by way of ascent. Rather dangerous section under Valentintörl, be careful!

High alpine and not too difficult ski tour for experienced ski tourers with good avalanche judgement; only during secure snow conditions. Ascend from Obergail 3-4 hours; altitude difference 1100 m. From Obergail along the forestry road in a southward direction to Obergailertal valley and mountain pasture Obergaileralm (1426 m). You may continue along the forestry road or along the western slope into the valley to refuge Enderberghütte (1660 m). Across the cirque and up to Raudenscharte (2295 m). Descent by way of ascent.

Beautiful and not too difficult hike offering great views. Ascent time from Obergail 2,5 hours. From the highest-located farm in Obergail (access via Liesing – Klebas – Obergail), Plasegger-Hof, follow the forestry road towards Obergailerberg for about 1 km. Turn left at the following fork. After 40 m turn left again and leave the road. Cross steep forest area heading south via Obergailerberg (1674 m) to an alpine cabin (wayside cross). Follow the ridge to the summit (the first section is forested, then free). Descent by way of ascent or to Obergailertal valley!

Advisable only during very stable snow conditions (firn!), but always a great spring tour offering fantastic views. Ascent time from Assing 3-3,5 hours. Altitude difference downhill 850 m. Access from Liesing via Pallas to Assing (1427 m; cleared). Along the summer road across the wood in an eastward direction to mountain pastures Oberrasteralm and Mahdalm (1814 m). Cross the wide summit slope of mount Lumkofel to the right in the lower section. Choose the trace carefully, the slope is getting steeper. You may ascend to mountain pasture Oberrasteralm also from the main road (turnoff to Stabenthein) along the new forestry road. (DANGER OF AVALANCHES!) Descent by way of ascent or via mountain pasture Oberrasteralm to Oberring.

A ski tour to mount Schwalbenkofel is practicable during all winter months, but requires a careful choice of trace above the forest line. Ascent time from Raut 2,5-3 hours; altitude difference 900 m. During stable snow conditions and with good avalanche judgement you may go on to mount Schulterhöhe. Ascent time 1 hour; altitude difference 300 m. From Raut (access from Maria Luggau) along the summer road in a south-west direction across the wood to “Gossenwiesen” meadows, continue across the larch forest and then to the right along the north-eastern ridge to mount Schwalbenkofel (2159 m). Along the ridge of mount Schwalbenkofel and after a short descent along the summer road to mount Schulterhöhe (choose the trace carefully!). Descent by way of ascent. When descending from mount Schulterhöhe there is a short ascent to mount Schwalbenkofel.

Easy and rewarding snowshoe hike, practicable during all winter months. Ascent time from Maria Luggau about 3 hours, from Xaveriberg 2,5-3 hours. Altitude difference downhill 500 and 700 m. Mountain pasture Samalm is easy to reach from Maria Luggau via the forestry road “Klammwiese”, from Xaveriberg (1258 m, access from St. Lorenzen via Wiesen) following the southeast ridge (forestry road or summer trail). Possibility to descent via mountain pasture Wieser Alm to Tuffbad, by the way of ascent to Maria Luggau or Xaveriberg or via sparsely forested southern hillsides to Guggenberg.

From Kirchberg follow a forestry road and reach the forest line. Continue across free area to mountain pastures Kircher Almen. This ski tour is practicable for beginners. Ascent time about 2 hours.

After a long ascent across Winklertal valley you reach the top of the valley, follow the alpine road. You may shorten your way to refuge Oberalmhütte (2190 m) by choosing a good trace. From mountain pasture Oberalm continue to the left until you reach the ridge. Along the north-western ridge to the summit. Experience one of the most beautiful descents (free eastern slope to the valley) of the Carnic ridge. Spring tour! The steep summit slope is skiable only during stable conditions! Ascent time about 3,5 – 4 hours.

In spring during stable snow conditions you may ascend to Hintersattel starting from Kartitsch or Rauchenbach along Erschbaumertal valley and cross beneath Königwand face to Filmoorsattel. After Kartitsch a road branches off Gailtal valley main road in a southward direction leading to a sawmill. Follow the road into the valley until you reach a ridge that partly closes the top of the valley. Now there are two possibilities: pass by the ridge to the right, turn left and ascend a cirque or keep left at Königwand face, ascend 200 m and cross to the right in a small saddle. There are two cabins; one of them is the Tscharrhütte. These cabins are used for the storage of hay. Go on in a south-east direction between Kinigrat and Königwand face on the one hand and Liköflwand face on the other hand up to Hintersattel.

Start at Kartitscher Sattel near Gasthof Klammerwirt. Ascent time 2,5-3 hours, altitude difference 834 m. From the main road follow the Seeland toboggan run for about 300 m. Leave the run to the right and follow the summer road until you reach the forest line. Keep right and walk across the hollow to the ridge (single larch trees), ascend the ridge until you reach the hollows beneath mount Öfenspitze. Cross the slope to the west and follow the ridge in an eastward direction to the summit (3 hours). Descent by way of ascent.

The first section of the ascent leads across Rollertal valley and is quite easy. From mountain pasture Bödenalm the way continues to the right along the alpine road leading to mountain pasture Karalm. At the turnoff to mountain pasture Karalm continue to the right across the steep eastern slope to the ridge and then to the summit. Ascent time 3,5 hours.

Ascent time about 5 hours. Great view of the Hohen Tauern, the Sexten Dolomites, the Carnic ridge and Lienz Dolomites. This tour leads from St. Oswald/Kartitsch (ski-lift) along the ski-run to mount Dorfberg and across Gailtal valley Alps to Golzentipp (2317 m); descent to Connyalm (serviced refuge) and along the ski-run to Obertilliach.

From Hollbruck in a southward direction across Hollbrucker Tal valley to the top of the valley. Ascend to Ochsenboden, then in a westward direction across free slopes to mount Hollbrucker Spitze. Or turn left at the Hirtenhütte cabin and follow the slight ascent to Hochgräten (about 4 hours). Descent by ways of ascent.
