Mount Lumkofel

Walk duration there and back about 7 hours = 14 points

The hike to mount Lumkofel starts in Assing (please mind that your parked car should not encumber anybody). We take the forest trail and turn left in the first bend after the last mountain farmhouse. We follow the steep trail that crosses the forest trail several times. The turnoffs are wellmarked and signposted. After an hour we’ll reach the mountain pasture Mahdalm. From here it’s about one hour to the summit, the trail leads first eastward and then it goes up quite steeply over the grass hill to mount Lumkofel. In the last section of the hike the trail disappears more and more. We just walk up the mountain freely towards the summit (control stamp at the summit cross). Now we can enjoy the beautiful view in all directions from mount Großglockner to the Dolomites – the Carnic Alps – the Karawanken. As descent we recommend the south side of mount Lumkofel over alpine meadows to mountain pasture Mahdalm. We turn back to Assing using the ascending way or we can walk to mountain pasture Oberrasteralm and then back to Assing (walk duration about 1 1/2 hours).
