Mount Gamskofel

Walk duration there and back about 6 hours = 12 points

The hike starts at the turnoff in Obergail (mountain tavern Lahnerhof – information board with signposts) and we take the road to the right towards Obergailer Berg. The hike leads past the highest hamlet of Obergail (Plasegge). After about 4 km across forests and pastures we reach a viewpoint with a bench. After a short walk (600 m) there is a signpost for a recommended short cut (it shortens the way considerably). We reach the refuge “Hurde- Hütte”. Now the hike ascends steeply and leads along the ridge to mount Gamskofel and the summit cross (control stamp). A direct descent to mountain pasture Obergailer Alm is very dangerous and almost impossible. Therefore we take the same way back and follow it for about 1 km until we get to the turnoff to mountain pasture Obergailer Alm. Now we can take the same way back to Obergail or continue to the mountain pasture (steep descent – we recommend to watch the marks carefully) from where we’ll also get back to our starting point.
