The Gailtal valley high-alpine trail to the south of the Lienz Dolomites and to the west of the Gailtal valley Alps leads across spectacular natural landscapes. The trail is bordered from Pustertal valley to the north and from Gailtal and Lesachtal valley to the south and is the smooth counterpart of the “Peace trail” along the Carnic ridge. A guide book – written by nature lover and writer Walter Mair – describes the stages. It also indicates the possible ascents and descents along the long-distance trail to the valley and the villages. Of course the trail can be hiked in both directions. The book “Der Gailtaler Höhenweg” is available at the tourist office in Lesachtal valley. The Gailtal valley high-alpine trail is easy to walk. Some sections are known as family-friendly hiking trails. Only rare sections require favourable weather conditions. The guide provides more detailed information and invites you to explore the beautiful area of the East Tyrolean and Carinthian mountains.
